Are you employed by Walmart?
No. I am an independent doctor of optometry who rents office space and equipment from Walmart. I do not receive any income from the selling of glasses or contact lenses, only from providing comprehensive eye exams and treating eye disease.
Why do I need an eye exam every year?
A lot can change with your eyes over the course of a year. Not only can your eyeglass prescription change, but certain eye diseases can slowly set in. Many times, these eye diseases present initially with no signs or symptoms and are only detectable by a comprehensive eye exam. You are at a higher risk for eye disease if you are a contact lens wearer or have a strong eyeglass prescription.
Why does it cost more for a contact lens examination?
We do additional testing with contact lens patients to measure the curvature of the eye to ensure that we prescribe the lens that optimizes fit and comfort. We also do an evaluation after you have worn the lenses for a given period to make sure there are no complications. Contact lens wear can sometimes impact ocular health, and we examine the eyes to check for these ocular health changes.
Does it cost extra for a dilated eye exam?
No. That level of care is included in the regular exam fee.
When will my eye glasses be ready for pick-up?
It takes approximately five days for the glasses to be ready from the order date.
I replace my contact lenses when they start feeling uncomfortable. Is that OK?
No! Most contact lenses are designed to be thrown away and replaced every 2 weeks or every 4 weeks. Not complying with these FDA guidelines can lead to eye infections, eye inflammation, scarring, and perhaps even permanent vision loss. Contact lenses are medical devices and need to be cared for appropriately.
How long will it take for my contact lens order to arrive?
Most contact lenses fit at Murphy Eye Clinic are kept in stock by Walmart. Most patients will be able to leave Walmart with their annual supply.
